I just bought a one gig data package for Cuba. Will I be alerted when I am approaching having used it up? Will it fail over to automatically adding another one gig for $5?will it automatically stopped working? I am worried that when I use up the one gig I will start being charged local fees?

If you do not have money in your fizz's wallet you are not going to be charged5

John,
I would suggest you to put your counter of data to zero on your phone.
This is the best way to follow your data usage.
And
If you dont put money in your wallet, you will pay nothing more.7 -
The phone counter will give you a good indication , but read the service agreement and you will see that in roaming the count can be tricky
Remember your phone must support the band b1 and enable the data roaming6 -
Don’t worry local fee, no bad surprise with Fizz, this in a prepaid service,
Just put money in your wallet and follow your data usage.7 -
Yes indeed, if you have no money in your wallet, then you will not be charged additionally for the addons.6

No need to put money in the wallet. When you buy a data package at 5$ for one gig it will stop automatically when it's used. If you think you will use more data I recommend buying another add on before the first one is completely used so you will not be stuck without access...8

Just an FYI, Cuba's internet connection is not at the speed and quality levels you would expect back at home. The biggest issue won't necessarilly be the connection between your phone and the cell tower, but the internet feed between the phone company.
Nonetheless, infrastructure in Cuba is improving and you may still have adequate internet connection.

They have 4G LTE cell towers now but yes but they have slowdowns especially in the evening. The problem is the connection to the Internet backbone. It should improve soon.
