Why MTU is set to 576 by DHCP?

Hello.
At seems that MTU sent by DHCP server is set way too low (576 bytes). Is there a good reason for that?

    this is over the wifi?
    I did not know that the DHCP was able to send the MTU configuration

    Indeed such problem exists if one connect desktop directly to the modem while modem in pass-through mode. Videotron DHCP sets mtu to 576.
