My new Fizz plan is working well! Do I need to contact my old carrier (Bell)? Can they charge me for leaving?

If you transfer the number the bell account will be closed automatically
However your can contact then to double check, after the transfert is completed.
They cannot charge you to close the account, however, if you have a balance from the device or something else they will charge you.10 -
After port transfering to Fizz, your Bell account will close. There is no need to contact them,
Bell can charge you only if you had a contract with them.
For example, if you had a plan with Bell which includesd a new phone. Bell can charge you the remaining amount you owe for the phone. Any outstanding amount will be billed to you.

The following answer are valide if you transferred your old line from bell to fizz. if this is not the case you will need to cancel your old line they can only charge you till the monthly billing cycle ends not more if you have payments left for the phone they will also charge you for that13

Marie-Pier,
No, you dont have to contact your previous provider.
Fizz has done the transfert of your phone number and this account will be closed automatically. You are supposed to receive your last bill from this provider.
Enjoy experiencing Fizz!10 -

If you want to keep the same number, and that your contract is over, then no. You can simply apply at fizz and your old carrier will call you back to confirm the exchange.
If you have a contract, you may want to call them first to request a cancellation. Procedure will vary depending on the carrier and the type of contract.
Bell may reserve the right to charge you fees and your credit score might be affected.9 -
I will adviced you to contact them and i will explain you why based on my experience. I transfered my number from videotron and everything was fine with my fizz account, but i noticed that videotron still charged me for the number. When i called them, they told me that the number is not transfered and o need to check with fizz. On the other side, fizz assured me that the number was succesful transfered. Anyway, after many calls, videotron admited that something is not ok and canceled my number.9

Only contact Bell in case they are still charging you after the transfer is completed.4
