In order to use a service such as Lyft, they send you a confirmation code via text msg. I never receive this text message, and had two friends also on Fizz confirm the same thing. Other text messages to and from are without issue.

Sorry for you but it is a know issue
From the site
A few known issues currently being worked on:
Text messages (SMS) sent by certain companies, such as Microsoft and Google to name a few, are not received.12 -
That's a known problem that they are slowly solving.7

We are in the stabilization period as defined/announced by Fizz
https://fizz.ca/en/faq-stabilization-period
What can I expect during the stabilization period?
Expect a few technical hiccups. Other outages are also a possibility.
Examples of potential technical issues:
- Interrupted connection for unknown periods of time.
- Intermittent or slow service.
- A few missed texts or dropped calls.
- Connection to the 3G/4G/HSPA+ network rather than the LTE network.
A few known issues currently being worked on:
- Text messages (SMS) sent by certain companies, such as Microsoft and Google to name a few, are not received.
- Certain devices connected to a Wi-Fi network are not able to send or receive multimedia messages (MMS).
- Some services do not work optimally when roaming internationally (outside the U.S.A., varies according to the destination).

2FA text messages are currently known to not work properly while they are currently stabilizing their network. As a work around most 2FA providers give an option to allow a phone call instead and this will work. I am not 100% familiar with lyft but usually there is a link "did not receive the code?" that you can click on and it will offer an option to have them call you with the code instead. This is the only way around the issue for now, hopefully the 2FA texts will be fixed in the coming months.5

@Ryan - "offer an option to have them call you with the code instead."
Indeed this true, unfortunately I am out of the country, and this bug:
https://community.fizz.ca/questions/1967041-web-site-fail-allow-add-travel-add-ons
is preventing me from adding the phone call add-on. So I am unable to receive the text and also unable to receive the call.5 -
@Scott, sorry to hear about your situation. Unfortunately with Fizz in its current state it really isn't reliable to bring outside the country honestly. With them being in a stabilization period there are many issues that will likely take months before they are resolved. Maybe the easiest and most reliable thing to do would be to buy a local pay as you go sim card and use that. It will probably be cheaper then Fizz add ons and you can at least use it until you return and not have to worry about Fizz's issues.4

hahaha... too funny....
My only suggestion is to get VoIP number (probably better in CAN) and setup call forwarding from your Fizz to VoIP.2
