Can I sign up as a pay as you go account? I want to sign up my dad for an account and he only really needs pay as you go features (no data, only talk and text as required). Is this option available or do I need to sign up on a monthly plan?

You need a monthly plan, as far as I know. But you could sign up on the cheapest option available (not sure what that is) and then add money to the wallet for all the pay as you go costs. I suspect Speakout or one of the other pay as you go-oriented MVNOs is a more cost effective option for him, though. Does he use very few minutes/texts? Public Mobile's $10 plan may suit him well ($8 if you go on autopay). If he needs more than 50 minutes some months but not others, you can add on the $15 400 minute long distance calling option. It's good for all minutes to/from anywhere in Canada and to anywhere in the USA, and doesn't expire, so it's a good way to have extra minutes available just for when you need them.10

It looks like the minimum option is $8 per month with nothing (I guess just the number) and you will need to load money in the account so it would work as pay as you go with a minimum of 8$ billed per month.9

He uses very little or ZERO mins/text a month, so maybe I will check out Public Mobile for him. Thank you for the responses9

If he uses it that little, 7/11 speakout might be his best bet. The only monthly charge is the 911 fee, and all top ups last 365 days.8
