Incoming sms for plans with no messaging?

I have a plan with no messaging. With any other providers, incoming messages still worked despite not having a plan that supports messaging.
Does fizz mobile not have incoming messaging free?

They claim that incoming messages are free. Are they not working for you at all? If it's for 2FA, a lot of those texts don't work for anyone, messaging as part of their plan or not.15

I believe incoming sms are free with Fizz. At the very most it would be $.05 per text message, taken from funds you add to your wallet, as this is the pay per use cost for texts. But I'm fairly certain that is outgoing texts only (you can't control who texts you, or how often, after all).7

Hmm, my reply went to moderation for no reason I can see. I don't know how long that takes so I'll try again and maybe this one will get through automatically. The incoming texts should be free. There is an outgoing pay per use cost of $.05 per text without a subscription or add-on, however.16

For what it's worth not all other companies provide free incoming texts without a subscription. But these days the ones who don't simply don't allow texts at all. For example, my father in law is on a calling only plan with Public Mobile and I can't text him because he can't reply. Or, more specifically, I can text him but, somewhat amusingly, what he'll receive is a text message from Public telling him a text message was sent to him by someone else and he's not allowed to receive texts.15

I wonder if you put money in your wallet in order to send sms, would that activate incoming sms?15

$0.05 per text is actually reasonable compared with other providers.13

- Whenever reply is long OR complex (underline/bold/etc.), it will go to moderator for checking.
- Fizz Plan without SMS DOES include incoming SMS, $0. Outgoing will take $0.05 from your Wallet.12 -
My reply was basically the same; neither long nor complex. Just about the same length as the two posts that did get through and all in plain text. I must have written something that triggered the filter, though, but I can't imagine what it was. Either that or it was a random spot check.12

Canada is somewhat unique in that you, in essence, pay to receive texts and calls.
This practice has somewhat been masked by packages/subscriptions for calls or texts. If you have a package for outgoing X you should not get charged for incoming X. Without a package, I do believe you'll get charged.10 -
This is not a Canada thing. I've had pay as you go for years, and only ever had to pay for outgoing texts, not incoming.11

Allison that might be so of course in your case and many others but I can assure you the charging philosophy in Canada is unique in the developed world.
My point was (specific packages aside) many Canadian operators do charge for incoming X if you do not have have outgoing X packages.
As for Fizz and the OP's question, I'm not sure but they can charge if they want to. Whether they do I don't know.

FizzWiggler, I think you're right, but I feel like it's more accurate to say that we don't discriminate between incoming and outgoing calls/texts (or data, for that matter) in Canada whereas most of the rest of the world does treat incoming as different from outgoing in that all incoming calls/texts are free. I think it would be nice if we were more similar to the rest of the world, but it's only when it comes to texting that I take issue with the system here, because I can always choose not to answer a call to avoid a charge but I can't do anything to avoid an incoming text message giving me a charge. Fortunately, I'm not aware of any company that currently charges for incoming texts here (and I'm glad TD was able to confirm Fizz's presence on that list) - it's either free or impossible. At least as long as you're within Canada.8
