Apparently 911 doesn't work?

Someone on Reddit reported that he was unable to call 911 last night (he tried many times) after a break in to his apartment. If this is true, this is a major issue that needs to be resolved immediately.

I don't know if that is true. If you have service and are able to call anyone, you should be able to call 911.

Apparently, it does work and I've tested it myself

Also, the OP made an update saying it was working, also others have tested and confirmed that it's working. This is what I posted as a reply from what I was able to gather "I believe and I could be wrong that the CRTC mandates that even without an active SIM you should be able to call 911, as long as the cell phone can pick up a network (ANY compatible network), it will use it to dial 911 if necessary"
