I want to test it before I port my number from another provider to Fizz. So will I be able to port my number after trying fizz for couple of weeks.

Do NOT try this. I tried to transfer my phone number after activating my fizz account and sim card with a new number and failed. I contacted technical support and they were unable to manually transfer the existing phone number. They could only point me to the web page that explains phone transfers during activation. I had to cancel my plan, order a new sim card and follow the normal procedure for phone transfers during activation.3

I think you can't, I've done the same thing (try before) and now, I don't have the option to port my old number anymore. But you can probably cancel your plan at the end of the month, and start over, so you'll have the option again to port your old number with the same Sim card... OR if not, just buy another 5$ sim card and start again...6

You can't port a number over an active line. If you want to port your number, you gonna have to get a new sim and activate a new plan with portability.6

I'm not sure for Fizz, but you CAN usually port a phone number from a provider to an active phone line at another provider. It is considered as if you asked for a phone number change, but the number has to be kept active and your account ope. Upon account closure, they block the number so it doesn't get attributed to someone else for a period of time (usually a few months), before releasing it. You might not be able to do this yourself and will possibly need the help of c/s, but I've done it with Telus, Videotron and Koodo without any issue.8
